Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • My daughter has arthritis and my son as aspergers with heart issues. Do I need to get a GAC for both of them? What can a GAC help us with?

  • Hi Staci,

You'll be happy to know that Disney is an amazing place for Guests with special needs.

A Guest Assistance Card (GAC) assists guests with a wide variety of special needs that may otherwise prevent them from being able to enjoy attractions.

To obtain a GAC, visit Guest Relations when you enter the 1st theme park of your visit. The Cast Members (CM) will be able to tailor the GAC to help meet your children's needs as much as possible.

The GAC will alert CMs at each attraction what type of special assistance your children needs so that they can accommodate them to the best of their ability. The GAC will allow that guest & up to 5 other members of their party access to alternate waiting areas or queues where available.

The GAC does state that additional waits may be incurred at certain attractions due to the need for a special vehicle or other operational concerns. Its also suggests that at attractions offering Disney's FASTPASS service, Guests should obtain a Disney's FASTPASS return ticket.

I recommend getting a Guest Assistance Card (GAC) for each of your kids. This will be very beneficial in case you and the members of your party decide to go in separate directions at times and each take one of the children on a different attraction.

There is a section on the WDW website devoted to Guests with Disabilities that you might find helpful.  You can also stop by Guest Relations and pick up a Guide for Guests with Disabilities map that will provide an overview of services and facilities available for Guests with disabilities.  You can also download a copy prior to your trip by clicking on the link above.

Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
