  • We are frequent Disney World visitors with 2 boys (5 & 8). We are looking for something "different" to do without spending a lot of extra money. Any ideas?

  • It can be a real challenge to come up with new and fun activities that don't require spending a lot of money-here's a few that my family has enjoyed:  Most little boys love fishing-at the Fishin' Hole at Disney's Port Orleans Resort-Riverside they offer cane-pole fishing every day from 7 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. No prior fishing experience is required and it is strictly catch and release. Individual and family packages for pole rentals include bait.  Another fun idea is to head over to the Fort Wilderness Resort to visit the Tri-Circle-D Ranch.  Here you can see a variety of horses including Cinderella's Ponies and the Main Street U.S.A. Clydesdales-you may even see a blacksmith shoeing some of the horses' hooves.  There is no charge.  Wagon rides through the resort are also offered at the same location and they run every day at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., weather permitting.  There is a reasonable charge for this activity.  If you're there in the evening, you may also want to catch the Electrical Water Pageant as it passes by the shores of Fort Wilderness on the Seven Seas Lagoon-similar to the Main Street Electrical Parade, but on water!  You will want to check with the resort to find out the approximate time it will pass by and it is weather permitting.  There is no charge for this activity.  Finally, I would suggest heading to Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge to view the 30 species of African wildlife who live on the savannas there.  Late afternoon or early evening offers the best viewing, and if you go when it is dark, there are cast members with night-vision goggles so that you may observe the animals and their nocturnal behaviour!  The cast members working around the savanna are very interesting and knowledgeable and love to interact with the guests about what you are seeing.  There is also no charge to visit.  I hope this has given you a few fun ideas to do with your boys-have a magical visit!
