- Hi Shannon ~
Thank you for coming to me with your question!
A first trip to Disney World for a child is always amazing and I'm super excited for you to share that with your niece! Be sure to pick up a "1st Visit" button for her at your Disney Resort Hotel or any theme park Guest Relations location.
The temperatures usually start to climb in Orlando in May. The average high temperature in May is in the upper-80s and the average low is in the mid-60s. For my thin Georgia skin, that means I may need a light jacket in the evening but you may be fine without one. I always take a light jacket, sweater or sweatshirt in case it is chilly in restaurants and the hotel. Orlando usually gets a little over 3 1/2 inches of rain during the month of May. Just in case, I'd pack ponchos or umbrellas and shoes that you don't mind getting wet and dries quickly. Keep in mind that these are averages and check the 10-day forecast online before you finish your final packing.
While I don't have a crystal ball, based on prior years I think you have chosen a pretty good time to visit. Spring break is winding down and it is before the Memorial Day crowds arrive. I would avoid Disney's Hollywood Studios (DHS) on May 16th, 17th, and 18th unless you are planning to attend for Star Wars Weekends. Crowd levels at DHS are always high during this special event. No matter what the anticipated crowd level is at the parks, I always recommend making FastPass+ selections prior to your trip for the most popular rides to reduce your wait time.
Please feel free to visit us with all of your planning questions. We'll be hEAR for you up until you embark on your pixie dusted trail!
Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
