Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- My wife and I will be visitin WDW in Sept/Oct 2009. We will be traveling with children ages 12,9,& 6, (and my in-laws). My question is what should we invest the money in and what is just a waste of money? I have no ideas as to what to plan or anything.

- I am a very fiscally-minded girl Corey, and I've given a lot of thought to this question. I even asked my husband for his 2 cents and we had a tough time coming up with anything that is a "waste of money" at Disney World. In fact, after a long discussion, the only thing we came up with that we could truly put in the "skip it, not worth it" category would be many of the trinkets/souvenirs available.
While my love for all things Disney is far and deep and wide, I have to say that I don't see much value in a giant green hat, even if it does have Goofy ears dangling from it. And while those neon light up novelties are bright and flashy during the parades, there isn't much use for that sort of thing on a day-to-day basis.
On the other hand, Disney goes above and beyond to ensure magical memories when it comes to their resorts, restaurants and parks. The money you'll pay to stay on property is well worth every penny, if for nothing more than the perks (Extra Magic Hours, transportation, etc.) it will entitle you to. And the restaurants? Don't even get me started on the restaurants! Dining plays a huge and memorable part in our family vacations. Oh, and while the park admission isn't exactly cheap, Disney offers a fantastic bang for your entertainment dollar. The attractions and shows are far from hit or miss; they offer A+ experiences every time.
Since you mentioned your visit is scheduled for the fall, be sure to get tickets for the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. The cost for tickets is nothing compared to the fun to be had at the party!
All I can offer you is my personal opinion and in all honesty, my husband and I do not begrudge a single dollar we've spent on Disney vacations for our family. We can't put a price on the memories we've made and the magical times we've had. I hope that you feel the same once your trip passes and you look back on the experience!
