Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- I'm planning my 6yo son's 1st visit. He's not that adventurous & doesn't really like to be close to characters, he is ok seeing them from a distance. any suggestions on what to do or should we wait until he is older? do they do things for 1st visits?

- Hi Stacie,
A lot of small children are tentative when it comes to seeing characters. Fortunately, you can avoid them altogether on your vacation or simply see them from a distance. Characters don't just roam the parks. Usually they are in set locations, and people stand in line to get the chance to see them. Your son can decide if he wants to meet a character, or you can simply walk past the line and enjoy other attractions. Parades and shows are probably the best way for your family to see the characters without being close to them.
Character meals are popular, but there are many other fun dining options as well. Whispering Canyon Cafe and 'Ohana are both wildly popular places for families to dine and laugh together. 50s Prime Time Cafe is another fun experience where you'll feel as though you stepped into the kitchen of an old TV show.
As far doing something special for a first visit, there isn't anything specific that the folks at Disney do. However, be sure to pick up a 1st Visit button in any of the parks or at your resort. Wear it proudly. Cast members will see and notice it, and you never know what extra magic may be in store.
Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!
