Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- It is our first time to go at Disney. I am wondering if it is worth for us to take the dining plan or cheaper if it is just me to prepare breakfast to go & sandwiches to go for lunch. We just need 1 proper meal per day for 2 adults, 11, 8 & 4 year

A good rule of thumb when trying to figure out if the Dining Plan will save you money is to determine whether or not you are going to eat one sit-down/table service meal AND one counter service meal per day per person at WDW's restaurants. In general, if the answer is yes, then you will very likely save money with the Dining Plan. If not, then I'd skip the Dining Plan and pay separately for individual meals.
Since you are considering preparing breakfast and lunch meals "to go", then the Dining Plan will very likely not save you money.
If you do decide to consider the Dining Plan, I would also highly recommend you first try to reserve the table service meals that you would use on the plan (i.e., one table service meal, or an average of one table service credit, per day). That way you can be sure that you have enough dining options to appropriately take advantage of the Dining Plan. If any days are sold out, or you don't like the available options, it would similarly seem unwise to purchase the Dining Plan.
Hope that helps.
