Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • Hi, We are coming to WDW in Dec. 7th-12th. I understand this is one of the less crowded times and is it really necessary to make dinner reservations? (We have the Dining Plan) Thank You

  • Hi there Larry! There really is no time that you don't have to make dining plans if you plan on eating at any of Walt Disney World's character meals, signature restaurants, popular table service restaurants, and even the spots I would consider mediocre. During the "slower" times of year, you are still competing with vacationers with the dining plan, local residents, and the corporate and convention crowd.

If you search on the bar to the left under Topics, Dining, Dining Plan, the Disney Moms have been nothing but adamant that you MUST PLAN YOUR DINING IN ADVANCE. I have personally had friends "wing it" despite my urging.  While some might get some satisfaction by saying, "told ya so" I would rather people have a stress-free and magical trip. A good friend of mine just visited last month and wanted to take her daugter to Cinderella's Royal Table. She waited to make her reservations. Although she called 4 months before her trip, she wasn't able to ever get reservations and came back without that experience for her 3 year old Princess.

Now some folks are fine with kind of wandering around, waiting long periods of time for tables and eating lots of counter service meals. That's fine if you didn't invest in the dining plan and are eating a la carte. But with the dining plan, if you don't get a chance to use your dining credits by the last day of your trip, they are lost.

You can always cancel reservations, but you can't produce them out of thin air if they don't exist. Have a great time planning and a magical trip!

    Laura
