Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • My wife has had gastric bypass and can only eat Very small amounts of food at a meal. Will WDW restaurants allow us to order one meal to share? Hope to be on Deluxe Dinning Plan, can we order one meal for two people and pay 1 credit from dining plan?

  • Hi Rodney,

Honestly, I would not advise the Disney Dining Plan if it is only the two of you.  Since everyone included in your Disney Reservation would have to purchase the DDP, you would be paying for this expense for her, and truly not utilizing it.  Also, adults cannot purchase the Children's version of the DDP.

But, to answer your question, you can purchase only one meal at most of the Quick Service and Table Service restaurants, using only one meal credit at a time.  The problem with this is that you will most likely never be able to use all of the credits allotted to you both.

If you plan to eat at any of the buffet or Character Dining experiences, your wife will have to use her own credit separately.  Of course, if you are not on the DDP, she will have to pay the full price for the buffet or family style dining experience, no matter how much she can or cannot eat.

I recommend that you pay out of pocket this trip.  Your wife could order an appetizer as a meal, and some restaurants will even allow her to order from the children's menu, or offer her a reduced price for a smaller adult portion.  This is completely up to the management at the restaurant in which you are dining.  I would recommend calling ahead to find out their policy.

Another tip I have is that you obtain an card from your wife's surgeon that identifies her as a gastric bypass patient.  Some establishments actually require proof of the procedure in order to allow an adult to order from the children's menu or to obtain a reduced portion/price.

Make sure your wife stays hydrated!  Carry snacks with you, such as string cheese and grapes.  You will find that low-fat yogurt and fruit is offered at most restaurants, and the chefs at most table service venues will be more than happy to work with you to accommodate your needs.

    Have a wonderful time!
