Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • Hi, I'm going next january with my wife and 7 year son. For 8 days, visiting the parks 6, reserving the others to relax. Which Port Orleans resort would you suggest, RS or FQ? Besides dining plan, is there only breakfast plan? Is Park Hopper a must option?

  • Greetings Fernando!

You ask some really fabulous questions here.  It sounds like you've already given your upcoming vacation plenty of thought.  That's wonderful!  I guarantee your advance planning will pay off.

I suggest you stay at the French Quarter section of Disney's Port Orleans Resort, particularly if you plan to rely on Disney transportation.  French Quarter is the smallest of Disney's moderate resorts so it only has one bus stop.  That's quite an advantage as it tends to cut down on your transportation time to the theme parks.  The resort has a smaller footprint than Riverside so, no matter where your room is at French Quarter, you'll be close to the resort's main amenities.  And I bet your seven-year-old will enjoy slipping down the sea serpent's tongue into the pool at Doubloon Lagoon.

With regard to the Disney Dining Plan, I highly recommend that you choose this option for your vacation.  My family uses the Disney Dining Plan every chance we get.  We have found it to be the most economical way to handle our food budget while vacationing with Mickey, especially when there are children in our travel party.  There is no separate breakfast plan but you may certainly use your Disney Dining Plan credits for breakfast, if you like.

Finally, with regard to your theme park tickets, I generally believe that guests would be fine without the park hopper option as long as they have set aside at least one full day for each park. Because you have six days reserved for the theme parks in your itinerary, I don't think you will need the park hopper option.  That's another way you can save money in your travel budget.

Wishing you and your family a truly magical vacation next January.  I promise you'll cherish your Disney memories for a lifetime!

    Warmest regards,
    Jill
