Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • We are going to take a day off from the parks on Christmas day. I was thinking that this would be a nice day to tour some of th Christmas decorations and such in and around Disney. Could you suggest some spots to visit and give some transportation tips? :)

  • Hi Jessica,

The winter holiday season is such a wonderful time of year to visit Walt Disney World.  As you know, the resorts are decked out in their holiday finest and are truly magical.  Your plan to skip the theme parks and visit the resorts on Christmas Day sounds great.  The parks can be very crowded on Christmas Day, so a leisurely visit to the resorts is a wonderful idea.  I have two ideas for holiday resort touring.  You could do either of these, or if you are ambitious and finish one, then hop to the other.

You could tour the monorail loop, visiting Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, Disney's Contemporary Resort, and Disney's Polynesian Resort.  Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa has an amazing life-size gingerbread house.  The other resorts will also be resplendent, with a magnificent gingerbread tree at Disney's Contemporary Resort.  At some of the resorts, you will be able to buy gingerbread to munch on as you see the amazing decorations.  For this tour of three resorts, you can take the monorail between each.  If you would like to add Disney's Wilderness Lodge to this tour, which is always beautifully decorated at Christmas, you can take a boat ride from Disney's Contemporary Resort.

The second option is the Crescent Lake area, which would entail visiting Disney's BoardWalk Inn, and Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.  Disney's BoardWalk Inn lobby has an amazing masterpiece made of gingerbread: a concession stand based on boardwalks of the past.  Over at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club, you will find a carousel made of edible materials.  For this tour, you can walk around Crescent Lake, which is a very manageable walk, or you could take the Friendship Boats which run along this route.

I hope that you have a magical Christmas Day exploring the resorts at Walt Disney World, Jessica.  Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
