Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • We are coming the week of march 23, 2014. Staying at allstar sports. We have a 13 and 8 year old. Feeling a little adventurous and would like to ride monorail or some boats for added fun. Are this free? If so, how do we go about it?

  • Hi Mary,

There are lots of ways to stretch your adventure on monorails and water transportation at Walt Disney World -- all free!

The longest monorail circuit is between the front of Epcot and the Transportation and Ticket Center near Magic Kingdom. The round-trip circuit takes about 40 minutes.

We also enjoy riding the Magic Kingdom resorts monorail line. We walk through each resort, get a snack or a drink or a meal, then ride to the next. All three -- the Contemporary, the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian -- have distinct personalities and are beautiful in their own ways.

That area also is a great place for a water taxi ride across Seven Seas Lagoon or Bay Lake. From the docks near the Magic Kingdom gate, you can catch a boat to Fort Wilderness, Wilderness Lodge or to the monorail resorts.

Here's a fun tour I did last week: From the boat docks behind the Contemporary, ride a water taxi to Fort Wilderness. Spend some time exploring the public areas or one of the inexpensive activities, such as a wagon ride. When you are finished, reboard the water taxi to Wilderness Lodge. Explore there, then motor across the water back to the Contemporary. This is a really nice circuit, especially near sunset.

You also can take a free round-trip boat ride from Hollywood Studios to the International Gateway entrance of Epcot, past the Yacht and Beach Club resorts, the Swan and Dolphin resorts and Boardwalk along the way. Again, you can exit at any time.

Or, from Downtown Disney, take the water taxi to the Port Orleans, Old Key West or Saratoga Springs resorts.

I hope this gives you an idea of ways you can use different forms of transportation to add a little variety and adventure to your Disney transportation experience. Please feel free to write back if I can offer any other suggestions. Enjoy!

    Wilma
