Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- I read in one of your answers that you love the artwork at Disney. Where can I go at WDW to show my kids some interesting art?
- - Asked by Jeff from New York on 9/11/2008
- Jeff there is so much art and history at Disney. First of all, Epcot is a treasure trove of galleries. I was just in the Mexico Pavilion the other day and walked through their native art exhibit that is usually in the lobby or entrance to the pavilion. Pre-Columbian art is there right alongside real artists showing their wares. In Norway, you will find a replica of a Stave Church which to my understanding are very rare Scandinavian churches dating back to the 15th century. There you can find exhibits on Vikings, which are always a big hit with boys! I could go on forever about the symbolism in the architecture of the China Pavilion, but the native Cast Members would be happy to give you the many, many facts about the temple that houses the pavilion's movie. At one time, the American Pavilion held pieces of the largest African Art exhibit in the world. The art was so large and important, that the Disney company donated it to the Smithsonian Museum a few years ago.
Morocco is one of the only exhibits in this country that was built by an ruling member of royalty. The King sent artisans, chefs, painters and architects to Florida to make sure that the pavilion was done just so. Actually, each pavilion has reproductions of original buildings or conglomerations of times in history. For example, the buildings of the France Pavilion is almost all from the Belle Epoque era, which most people associate with Paris.
I am just scratching the surface here. Many of the resorts, such as Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney's Wilderness Lodge have enough original art worth enough $$$ to fund an entire country! This is one of my favorite subjects and most of the information I have found out from the Cast Members. They have history info and offer tours of many of these areas.
As you can see, there is so much more to see at Walt Disney World than rides and parades! Have a magical and informational trip!
