  • Which would you consider 'scarier'...Goofy Rollercoaster or Big Thunder Raildroad? My 5 year old was a bit scared last year with Goofy...would one year make Big Thunder approapriate?

  • Hi Gwynn,

It is always hard to determine what a child might consider frightening as each child is so different. I can tell you that I heard a very interesting tidbit of information recently-that Goofy's Barnstormer actually goes faster than Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Now I have not seen any clocked speeds, so i am not sure if this is an actual fact or just a perception, but I can tell you Goofy's is a crazy and fast ride. Now granted the ride is a lot shorter and certainly less intimidating  to look at then that big mountain, but fast nonetheless. My boys have always favored Big Thunder Mountain Railroad over Goofy's Barnstormer (me too honestly) but neither attraction actually frightened them.

I would let your child decide. The great advantage here, is both attractions are slightly visible from the "safe zone" or ground. Let him watch both and see which one he would prefer. If he can't pick, then maybe he is not ready to tackle those attractions just yet, and that is ok too. it is much better to have him sit out then be frightened to the point where he may not be willing to enjoy other attractions during the vacation. Good luck and remember he will get there when he is ready, my thirteen year old finally conquered Splash Mountain for the first time last year.
