Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • Hello moms. We love the Spectro Magic Parade but I don't see it in our stay Nov. 30-Dec 5. I do see the Main Street Electrical Parade. Are they the same with different names? Thank you!

  • Hi Liza!

Currently, the Main Street Electrical Parade (MSEP) is being featured at the Magic Kingdom (MK).  The MSEP & SpectroMagic are of the same concept in that they both are made up of floats featuring thousands of lights & set to music creating an incredible experience.  However, the floats & music are totally different for both parades.

It all began in 1971 with the Electrical Water Pageant that you can still see on most evenings on Bay Lake & the Seven Seas Lagoon. MSEP made its first appearance at the Magic Kingdom in 1972 & has made its rounds at Disney Parks through the years. SpectroMagic debuted at MK in 1991 & ran until 1999. At that time MSEP came back for a short time for the Millennium Celebration & last appeared at MK in FL in 2001. SpectroMagic returned and was there until June 6, 2010 when the MSEP came back to the MK in FL as part of Summer Nightastic! and has remained as the nighttime parade.

Since its return in 2010, MSEP now features new LED lights & three new floats including Tinker Bell leading the parade, one that was inspired by Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs & one inspired by Pinocchio & the Pleasure Island boys.

You will find diehard SpectroMagic fans & MSEP fans. I am a huge fan of MSEP. I love the music - its happy, fun & makes you want to dance around.

Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison V.
