Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- I am 51 yo mom going with my 14 yo son in June to DW. I am not sure I can get on the all rides with him, because I am afraid I am too old. LOL! Can he ride without me? Is there away I can wait at exit for him?

- Hi Laura -
Seriously, you are NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT old. There are hundreds of 70+ year old seniors who go on every ride at Disney World every day. I'm very close to your age and during my most recent Disney trip I rode Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Rock n' Roller Coaster with no problems at all.
However, for reasons other than age, you may to want to skip experiencing a few select attractions and that's perfectly OK.
Assuming that your son is comfortable riding alone, he would be able to go on his own. This happened to me last month when I was at WDW with my 14 year old twins. One of my daughters wanted to go on Tower of Terror and I was not in the mood. She went on her own and we met up at nearby shop half an hour later. She felt comfortable going completely on her own because she has been to the parks and on the ride many times before and we both had cell phones. If you want to separate from your son for just the attraction itself, you would certainly be welcome to wait in the line with him. Tell the cast member attendant at the ride load area that you want to leave before the ride and they will point you to what's affectionately known as the "chicken exit."
If you are going to separate from your son, be very clear about where you're going to meet after the ride. Some attractions don't have one clear exit, so this can be confusing. For example, Space Mountain empties into a gift shop which has several exit doors. To make sure you don't lose your son, pick a particular tree or bench to be a meeting spot. And I would encourage you to both have cell phones to make communication easier. On rare occasion, there could be a ride delay and you'll want to be able to reach your son if something like this happens.
Good luck with your planning. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We're happy to help.
