Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- Hi there,
My son is 2 1/2 years old. I'm wondering if this is the best age to take him to Disney? We have taken him to the zoo and the aquarium, but he didn't show too much excitement like we had thought he would, he was more cranky! Advice, please!

- Hi Lara,
Well, you have asked the "million dollar" question! Obviously, many could debate the answer to this one. Personally, I think any age is a great age because Walt Disney World has so much to offer each and every age category. However, here are a few points to consider.
When my husband and I took our oldest child, we waited until he was out of diapers, didn't completely rely on a stroller, and could be fairly entertained by us while waiting in long lines. At the time, he was almost 4 and we didn't have our younger children yet. In subsequent trips, we took our younger children at younger ages. So, we have done the double stroller, baby sleeping through most of the trip, and occasional meltdown from exhaustion.
Another important thing to remember is that Walt Disney World appeals to all the senses, so there is something to look at, listen to, smells of delicious eats around every corner, so you won't ever worry that they won't be stimulated by something! The key is to take a cue from your child. Some things can be overstimulating, thus causing a meltdown.
Take breaks often when traveling with a little one. Remember that you can't see or do everything especially when you have a toddler in tow. Slow your pace and feel free to leave the parks to go back for a mid-day nap. There are so many magical moments that can be captured even in the smallest situations like sharing a Mickey Bar or watching a parade. If you try to do too much, you'll stress yourself out and miss out on the those fun memories that come unexpectedly while watching your kid's delight.
I hope this helps you decide when you should travel to this magical place with your son. Keep in mind, you know your family and child best, so do it when you feel most comfortable.
