  • My husband and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary and taking our 5yo daughter with us to Disney World for the first time. We want to celebrate our anniversary with her. Any ideas for a family friendly, but special dinner or night-time activity?

  • Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel Enslen!

Congratulations on your upcoming Anniversary! Disney World is the perfect place to celebrate and its wonderful you want to combine it with your little Princess' first trip.

There are so many incredible ways to celebrate as a family. Here are some suggestions:

    * Have dinner at California Grill at the Contemporary Resort. Make your reservations to coincide with Wishes Fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. The amazing view will be very romantic for you and exciting for your daughter.
    * Dine at Narcoossee's at the Grand Floridian Resort. Its beautiful dining along the waterfront. Make your reservations near Wishes & stroll onto the deck to watch.
    * Spend an evening at Downtown Disney. Start with dinner at Fulton's Crab House and then attend a performance of Cirque du Soleil - La Nouba.
    * The Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party is a great way to see Wishes in the Magic Kingdom and enjoy some yummy desserts!
    * Celebrate the occasion and book a family Portrait Session with a Disney Photographer. The Disney Photographers do an amazing job of capturing memories in some very unique settings. These will be pictures you'll treasure forever.

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.

  • Congratulations on celebrating your 10th anniversary! It's wonderful that you plan to include your little princess in your special celebration!

There are many family-friendly activities and experiences offered at Walt Disney World Resort, but I personally think that one of the absolute best is the Pirates & Pals Fireworks Voyage. This cruise is a fabulous way to see Wishes, the nighttime fireworks spectacular at Magic Kingdom Park. You'll have an amazing view of the fireworks show from aboard your boat.

The experience begins at Disney's Contemporary Resort where you'll enjoy snacks, desserts and drinks in a private themed room. And there just may be a special guest or two who drop by to mix and mingle (hint: a famous "hooked" pirate and his first mate!). During your voyage, your friendly pirate host Patch will entertain you with a Disney trivia contest, songs and some very corny jokes. Then, after Wishes and your return to the Contemporary Resort Marina, a final surprise guest will appear -- a certain boy with red hair who never wants to grow up! The entire experience is so much fun and a great way to celebrate a special occasion.

Wishing you a wonderful celebration and fabulous first visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth!

  • Howdy Enslen!  10 year anniversary AND your daughter's first time at Walt Disney World!  How magical!

My fabulous fellow panelists have given you some fantastic suggestions!!  There are so many wonderful ways to celebrate at Walt Disney World!  Another option you might consider is Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show.  In the words of Lilo, "Ohana means family."  What better way to celebrate Ohana than at an enchanting luau that is fun for the entire family?

There is hula dancing, drummers and an amazing fire-knife performer. The dinner is held in the beautiful and romantic open-air theater in Luau Cove at Disney's Polynesian Resort. You will love the all-you-care-to-enjoy tropical feast that features authentic dishes.  Your princess will enjoy some of her favorites including peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and hot dogs.  Soft drinks and other non-alcoholic beverages are available and Guests age 21 and over can enjoy beer and wine with their meals. You can also splurge a little and purchase a fruity cocktail served in a hand-carved coconut keepsake - the perfect way to toast your anniversary!!

Regardless of how you choose to celebrate, make sure you let the Cast Member know about your special celebrations when you book your reservation and then again when you check-in at your resort and restaurants.  When you check-in at your resort, be sure to ask for your special Celebration Buttons that commemorate your anniversary and daughter's first trip to Walt Disney World.  You never know when a Cast Member might see the buttons and add a little pixie dust to your vacation.

Congratulations on 10 wonderful years!  Enjoy and cherish every magical memory!

  • Congratulations on this magical milestone anniversary, and what a great way to celebrate!  You'll find Walt Disney World is filled with wonderful ways to celebrate your special event, and I hope the Moms help you pin point what will make your celebration even more special.

I love the fireworks cruises.  Providing you the best seat in the house for either the Illuminations show at EPCOT or the Wishes fireworks from the Magic Kingdom, your private cruise can be tailored to your celebration.  Add food or drinks for a festive atmosphere, and sit back as you enjoy piped in music and a show that feels like it's just for you.  Click Disney World Specialty Cruises for more information.

Port Orleans French Quarter has a beautiful horse drawn carriage ride that is romantic for you and exciting for your little princess.  The carriage takes you through the resort, which will transport you to romance of New Orleans.  End your ride with a visit to the food court, where you can grab some of the delicious beignets and a drink to close out a lovely day.

One of the best meals I've ever had at Walt Disney World was at Jiko in Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.  Go early, and take your little one out to the savanna to see the animals before your dinner.  Enjoy a fabulous meal at Jiko, then head back out to the savanna, where you may find a few rocking chairs open around the fire pit, where stories of the animals and Africa are told.

I hope whatever you do to celebrate, your day and your vacation are the most magical!  And I wish you many more happy years - and magical memories - together!

  • Happy Anniversary! I can't think of a better way to celebrate this special milestone, and the look of delight on your little princess's face will be something you'll treasure forever. My friends have offered some wonderful suggestions. A fireworks cruise or dessert party would be my top choice.

If you do find yourself in Downtown Disney, and the weather cooperates, Characters in Flight might be a nice addition. This tethered hot-air balloon gives you a breathtaking bird's eye view of Walt Disney World. At night, during the fireworks, it would be absolutely gorgeous.

Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!

  • Hi there, Enslen!

Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby! I can't think of a better place to celebrate such a wonderful milestone and I just love that you want to celebrate with your little girl as well! Nothing beats a family celebration, in my opinion!

I love the suggestions my Moms Panel friends have given you already and one of my favorite ways to spend a very special evening is by having dinner at Narcoossee's and taking a special Fireworks Cruise around the Seven Seas Lagoon. My favorite fireworks view has always been from a boat!

A few years back, our family celebrated together one evening by having dinner at the Hollywood Brown Derby, a Signature restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard located at Disney's Hollywood Studios. This restaurant is an authentic replica of the famous Brown Derby and boasts all of the glitz and glamour you might expect! The food and service is outstanding and there is something wonderful on the menu for everyone.

We took advantage of the Fantasmic! Dinner Package where you receive a special VIP voucher during your meal for preferred seating at the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater where this unbelievable show with water, lights, and amazing special effects takes place! I think you'd all have the time of your lives and your daughter will really enjoy Fantasmic!

I know you'll have a Pixie Dusted anniversary celebration at the Walt Disney World Resort no matter how you choose to spend your special evening together!

  • Hello Enslen! I love that you are including your daughter in your 10th Anniversary celebrations, but I'm betting that you still want the evening to be romantic, with a touch of fun!  Walt Disney World is a great place to do just that, and I think an evening spent at Disney's Boardwalk is the perfect mix!

The Boardwalk comes alive at night, evoking the feeling of Coney Island and the sea shore.  The lights come on and the street performers come out.  There are some great restaurants if you want to have dinner; Kouzinna by Cat Cora and Big River Grille are a couple that I think would be perfect for the 3 of you. Afterwards, you can indulge your sweet tooth with a celebration dessert from Seashore Sweets. You can relive your dating days by having your husband try his hand at winning you or your daughter a prize on the midway games.  Finally, for a wonderful finish to an evening spent at the Boardwalk, rent a surrey bike and take a ride around Crescent Lake - the views around the lake at night are gorgeous and your daughter is sure to love having Mom and Dad pedal her around.

Enslen, congratulations on your 10th Anniversary, and I hope the 3 of you have a most magical, fun and romantic celebration at Walt Disney World!

    Kristen

  • First let me say "Congratulations" on your 10th anniversary and what a great time to celebrate with your daughter!

There are so many fun things to do that would make your anniversary as magical as it can be. As a result,
I would like to suggest the following activities:
    1. Take in a movie at AMC Movies at Downtown Disney 24 and enjoy Fork & Screen. Fork & Screen allows you to reserve upgraded seats and choose from an extensive list of yummy meals. This combination is a great dinner and movie choice.
    2. Enjoy bowling at Splitsville Luxury Lanes at Downtown Disney. Where else can you bowl, while eating from a diverse menu of foods that you do not normally find in traditional bowling alleys? Another location to do two things at once and provide fun for the whole family.
    3. Enjoy the Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party at Magic Kingdom Park. While you are not able to eat a full meal here, it is a great night-time activity for the family. The party usually starts about an hour before the Wishes Nighttime Spectacular and offers a great location to view the fireworks while enjoying the awesome desserts.
Have a magical anniversary and here's to many more years of happiness!

    Raquel

  • Hi Enslen,

First of all, congratulations and best wishes on your upcoming 10th anniversary. I think it is so special that you are celebrating your marriage as well as the family you created with your daughter among all the magic and fun of Walt Disney Disney World.

I think a memorable place to celebrate would be Jiko-The Cooking Place at Animal Kingdom Lodge. My husband and I actually celebrated our anniversary there about 4 years ago. The atmosphere is so lovely with the beautiful African art and it seemed to be a lot more quiet than many restaurants. The food is phenomenal and has unique flavors that you might not be able to try other places. They have an extensive wine list of South African vintages, too. Don't worry, your daughter will enjoy sharing this momentous occasion with you and even she can have a bit of fun of her own with a special dessert like the "Safari S'mores". I don't know about your daughter, but my kids always enjoy getting to enjoy a "fancy" dinner with mom and dad!

After dinner, you could take a stroll around the resort and maybe even enjoy a breathtaking evening under the stars with storytelling at the Jambo House Campfire.

I wish you all the best and enjoy your "happily ever after!"
    ~Allison L

  • Hi Enslen!  We have spent many anniversaries at Disney with our children over the years - what could be more romantic?  ;)

We are the type of family that prefers to have fun with our dinner so in case this is your preference as well, I'd like to suggest the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue.  Yes, it's a little corny but it is also a ton of fun and I'm sure this would be a good time for you all. I think that, followed by a fireworks cruise would be the perfect evening!

Another way to make your vacation a little more special is to visit the Disney Florist and arrange to have something special delivered to your room. They offer gifts in all prices ranges and have items available for both anniversaries and first time visits.  If your budget permits, an in-room celebration would certainly be a "WOW" factor!

And finally, to remember this special occasion for years to come, I would suggest you visit the specialty shops at Downtown Disney and purchase a personalized souvenir.  My favorite place to shop is Disney's Days of Christmas which will personalize ornaments while you wait.  The Arribas Brothers store also has glass and crystal gifts that can be personalized.

I'm sure whatever you decide to do will be just perfect!  Wishing you, your husband and daughter the most magical vacation ever!

  • Congratulations on your Anniversary! Celebrating at Walt Disney World is truly a magical experience - especially when your daughter can enjoy it with you!

On your anniversary night, be sure to pick up Bride and Groom Mickey ears to wear proudly throughout the parks! Whether you choose dinner at a signature restaurant, a viewing of Wishes, or any of the other great ideas my fellow moms have suggested, your special Ears are just the bling to top it off!

AND, if you're looking for an idea to remember the trip, I hope you'll enjoy this suggestion as well: Before you leave home, purchase a photo frame mat. Bring it along with you to the parks with a pen or marker. As you greet each character during your trip, ask them to sign the photo mat. If you'd like, you can even ask Cast Members around World Showcase to sign "Happy Anniversary" in their native language.

Then, be sure to snap a photo of your family in a special place at Walt Disney World - wearing those special Ears, of course! Combine the special photo and the signed mat to create a super special souvenir that you can cherish for years to come.

I hope you have a great trip and have many more happy anniversaries in the years to come!

  • Congratulations on your 10th Anniversary!! What a great way to celebrate this milestone but by visiting the Walt Disney World Resorts and bringing your daughter with you!

Since I like a more laid back celebration, I will offer you my favorite restaurant - Whispering Canyon Cafe. I really just love how you can sit back, enjoy good food and have chaos all around you. Sometimes you just need to let loose in the restaurant and this is the place to do it.

It is also is located in the beautiful Wilderness Lodge which is a short boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom. I really enjoy dining at the resorts because you get a break from the crowds and you get to look at future lodging for your next trip.

While at Wilderness Lodge, you can head back to the marina and catch the Electrical Water Pageant. This is one of the original entertainment features from the beginning of Walt Disney World.

Wishing you a magical vacation and a special anniversary celebration!
    Beth

  • Hi Enslen!

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!  My friends have given some wonderful options, and I'm happy to share some thoughts as well!

We've celebrated many an anniversary at Walt Disney World, and believe it or not, one of our favorite places to spend an evening is Epcot's World Showcase.  We love dining anywhere in World Showcase, and then watching IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.  Dining options might be a little more low-key, but my kids really enjoy San Angel Inn Restaurante as well as Le Cellier.  You could even book a Fireworks Cruise for IllumiNations viewing as well!

While your anniversary is about the two of you as a couple, it's so wonderful to include your daughter!  I'd suggest that at some point in your trip that she visit the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for an exquisite makeover.  A great way to celebrate her first trip as well!

Thank you so much for your question and have a magical vacation!
    Amanda

  • Congratulations to the Happy Couple!

The Moms sure have some great ideas for you on how to celebrate in a special way.  Me?  I'm more of a shopping kind of gal, so how about something to commemorate the occasion?  I am thinking of a "past, present, future" thing.

To remember the past (your fairy tale wedding!) how about choosing a favorite wedding photo, and getting a special Disney frame for it?  Many of the retail locations have darling wedding-themed frames.

For the present, have a PhotoPass photographer snap a special family photo for you of your wonderful family.  Snap several around the parks (whenever you see a photographer) then choose your favorite and have it made into an 8x10 (no rush, you have 30 days after you get home to choose your photos and have them made for you.  You can also choose your photos right away in the parks).

For the future, find a special Mickey and Minnie Bride and Groom statue, and let your daughter help pick it out.  Place it in safe display case when you get home.   Years from now, you can give this to your princess as a gift when she decides to get married - and you can remind her of when she chose this so many years ago.  You can tell her that she made your anniversary so special when she was just 5 years old!

However you decide to celebrate, I hope your vacation is magical.  Wishing you many more years of happiness and a continuation of your very own "Happily Ever After!"

  • Hi there Enslen!

Congratulations on your upcoming visit to Walt Disney World in honour of your 10th Anniversary! What a beautiful way to celebrate your love with your family at the Happiest Place on Earth!

Since my kids were both your daughter's age or younger, they've both had a hands-down favourite 'special' place to enjoy a family dinner together. Any time we are 'celebrating' at Walt Disney World, our "go-to" dinner spot is Teppan Edo in Epcot's Japan Pavilion. Your daughter will be entertained while watching the Teppanyaki Chef prepare her dinner before her eyes! It's a meal and a show all wrapped into one! Be sure to mention your Anniversary Celebration in your reservation details as well as to your seating hostess.

Following preparation of the meal, be sure to ask the chef if he or she will pose for a photo with your daughter - or with all of you. We have such a collection of the wonderful Teppan Edo Chefs posing in silly ways with our kids - with their chef hats, holding up the fancy spatulas they cook with and making silly faces. We've visited many, many times and never been disappointed by the food, the service or the entertainment.

Time your reservation just right and you can even pop outside onto the 'balcony' at the restaurant's entrance to watch IllumiNations from this elevated, unique view! It's by far one of my favourite places from which to watch this amazing nighttime show at Epcot. When we haven't quite finished our meal in time, we've even asked our server if we can pop outside for the show and then return for our dessert course and to settle the bill and been able to do so.

Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your great question Enslen.
I hope you have a simply Magical time celebrating your 10th Anniversary at Walt Disney World!

    Kirsten

  • Enslen,

My wife and I are about to celebrate our 10th anniversary as well, and we have 5 and 7 year old girls, so we are right there with you. But we have a two-pronged approach to the celebration.

Celebration 1: We want to celebrate the notable anniversary with a nice adult evening out. So for our first celebration we are dropping our girls off at the Never Land Club, one of the Children's Activity Centers at Disney resorts. They love the place, and we can feel safe in dropping them off there knowing they get a good meal, and a great time with well trained counselors in a secure setting. Then it is off to a romantic dinner for us. Any of the great locations already recommended here will do, though for us it is all about the California Grill

Celebration 2: Really our 10th anniversary is a family celebration, not just one for my wife and I. So we let the kids plan a dinner out for the family as well. We start with miniature golf, then go to a restaurant of our kids choosing, which usually means Hoop Dee Doo Review, or perhaps Whispering Canyon Cafe.

By the way, to use a Disney Children's Activity Center, you only have to be staying at a Disney resort, not the particular resort where the club is located. So consider this two pronged approach a way to celebrate as a couple, and as a family!

    Have a magical vacation!

  • Hi Enslen,

What a great way to celebrate your 10th anniversary, at Walt Disney World with your daughter! In order to answer your question, I thought about what has made some really special nights for our family, also made up of my husband, myself, and our young daughter. Some of our most magical times have been allowing her to stay up late and experience a theme park at night. She also really enjoyed a special birthday cake that we had made for her at Walt Disney World last year. Given this, here is what I recommend: spend the evening at Magic Kingdom. If it is a night that coincides with Extra Magic Hours at Magic Kingdom, and you are a Walt Disney World resort guest, all the better!

Start the evening with a special dinner. For a fancy dinner, you could try Be Our Guest Restaurant or Cinderella's Royal Table. For a less fancy dinner, my favorite is The Plaza. Our family is pretty low-key and would likely choose The Plaza! Before you go, call the Disney Cake Hotline at 407-827-2253. You can work with the cast member there to create a special cake for your anniversary to have at your dinner. It can be personalized to you, your husband, and your family, so it will be really special. Be sure to call the cake hotline at least 48 hours before you go.

After dinner, enjoy the magic that is the Magic Kingdom at nighttime. Take in the Main Street Electrical Parade and Wishes Nighttime Spectacular. Eat popcorn late at night. Watch your daughter run though the Magic Kingdom as the crowds lessen as it gets later. I remember laughing hysterically with my husband and daughter on our last trip to Walt Disney World as we ran through Adventureland at 12:50 a.m., bound and determined to get in one more ride on Pirates of the Caribbean before Extra Magic Hours ended at 1:00 a.m. (we made it!).

Whatever you decide to do, Enslen, I'm sure you will have a wonderful anniversary at Walt Disney World.

  • Hi Enslen,

You've received so many wonderful ideas to celebrate 10 years of marriage! Having just celebrated our 10-year anniversary, I understand how special this milestone is to your family.

Thinking back on the fondest memories with our now grade-schoolers, romance often came in the form of embracing our children's reactions to the magic of Walt Disney World. Disney Mom Kirsten offers an excellent suggestion to experience Teppan Edo. My husband and I fondly remember our kids enjoying their first Teppanyaki style meal in Epcot. They exuded pride, grasping their chopsticks for the first time, while mom and dad took in the ambiance of "Disney Time" as a family. My best advice is to choose one special part of the evening and let the rest of the details fall as they may.

Enjoy beignets at Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter followed by a romantic boat ride to Downtown Disney. Dine at 'Ohana where dimmed ambiance, delicious Polynesian specialties and live entertainment from the popular Lipoa will provide a perfectly romantic setting. Indulge your sweet tooth by sharing a "kitchen sink" sundae at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop. Check out the following Special Events link to determine if special events are occurring during your vacation.

Whatever you choose, Enslen, I wish you a very happy anniversary at the Most Magical Place on Earth.

    Sherri

  • Hello Enslen!

Congratulations on your 10th anniversary!  What a spectacular milestone.  Personally, I think the Walt Disney World Resort is the best place to celebrate with your daughter.  We celebrated our 11th anniversary a few years ago with our children as well.  My Disney Parks Moms Panel friends have given you some outstanding suggestions.  I am certain you will find the best option for you.

You might also want to consider dining at Sanaa, where you will be treated to a delicious African inspired family friendly meal.  The restaurant is located on the savanna at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas - Kidani Village.  Inside, you'll find large windows to the savanna where you may see any combination of animals, including kudu, zebras, giraffes and more.  As with any reservation you choose to make, be sure to have your celebration notated by the reservationist at (407) WDW-DINE.

I happen to love the Magic Kingdom Resort area.  The grounds of the resorts here are magical and romantic.  I would suggest considering a private photo session with Disney Fine Art Photography & Video. In my opinion, there's no better way to mark this special event together at Walt Disney World.  Why not book this at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa or Disney's Polynesian Resort with Cinderella Castle as a backdrop?  Call (407) 934-4004 to book.

Whatever you choose, I wish you a very Happy Anniversary.  Get ready to make some memories!

I wish you a truly magical vacation!

    -Jacqui

  • Hi Enslen!

Congratulations on your upcoming 10th Anniversary! There is no better place to celebrate than the Walt Disney World Resorts! You have received some great suggestions from my fellow moms and dads! If you will be visiting for multiple days, I recommend that you try out some of the awesome experiences they have recommended!

So here goes my ideas and it comes down to one word: Epcot. This is my family's favorite park. The dining here is probably the best in the Walt Disney World Resort Areas. There are so many different types of cuisine (Mexican, French, German, etc). I would recommend that you begin your special day with breakfast at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall which is located in the Norway Pavilion. Here your little princess can dress like her favorite princess and dine with Belle, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Ariel,  to name a few. After breakfast, you can enjoy the great attractions such as Soarin' and Test Track. You can also explore the beautiful scenery in each pavilion within the World Showcase. Later in the evening, you can properly celebrate by dining at either Monsieur Paul located in the France Pavilion or Le Cellier Steakhouse in the Canada Pavilion. IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth fireworks display is the perfect finale to your special day!

No matter what you choose, you can't go wrong! After all, you will be with the two most important people in your life, celebrating a wonderful milestone!

Wishing you a great anniversary and vacation!

    Yael

  • Hi Enslen,

Congratulations! You picked the perfect vacation destination to celebrate this wonderful occasion.

When I read your question, I immediately started to write a list of restaurants and evening activities that I thought would be perfect. Before I knew it, I filled an entire sheet of paper.

Guess what I did next…I crumpled the paper and tossed it in the trash!

The cast members at Walt Disney World create experiences for guests that are worthy of the most important celebrations (even if the guests aren’t celebrating anything at all). I realized that, no matter what, you’ll be treated like royalty and will have an amazing day. So, instead of sharing a mile-long list of my suggestions, I’ll share a secret about myself:

I own a piece of Walt Disney World!

That’s right, there’s a spot on the sidewalk on Main Street, U.S.A. that I’ve claimed as my own. This spot is where I stood two separate times and realized that I was making a memory that I’d cherish forever. This spot is where I savored the moment of bringing each of my children to Walt Disney World for their very first visits.

No one can ever take that memory from me. While there aren’t any signs at that spot, I know exactly where it is because I’ve replayed those memories countless times in my mind.

However you choose to celebrate, you may find yourself being filled with joyous emotions. (It’s par for the course at Walt Disney World.) At that point, stop and savor the moment for as long as you can. Take in the sights, sounds, and smells you’re experiencing because you’ll be living a moment in time that you will cherish forever.

When people ask me why I love Walt Disney World so much, I simply tell them about my special spot on Main Street, U.S.A. That’s why you picked the perfect vacation destination.

I hope you have an awesome anniversary celebration!

    -Derek
