  • Shannon,

That's really very thoughtful of you!  I was surprised to read that you didn't want to leave your husband alone with the three younger kids.  As the mother of three little ones myself (5, 3, 1), I'd leave them with my husband and run into the queue with nary a glance back over my shoulder.  And I'd probably walk very slowly back when I was done, pausing in the gift shop for a moment or 20.  You know.  A momma needs a break now and then!  ;)

But back to the question...there is an opt-out at the ride entrance, so theoretically your husband and children could wait with you and then exit without riding.  However, the cast members can not admit anyone under 44 inches into the queue.  Your 4 and 5 year olds could possibly qualify, but I'm willing to gamble that your 1 year old isn't 44 inches tall.

If you're going to use a FastPass for Space Mountain, perhaps your husband could take the children into a nearby ride while they wait?  Buzz Lightyear is nearby and also offers FastPass, and I've taken 3 little ones with me in one cart on that ride.  They could also easily ride the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, or take in the Carousel of Progress or Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor attractions; all three are in the same area of Tomorrowland.

If he doesn't want to attempt an attraction, perhaps they could grab a drink in Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe.  There is an animatronic space alien that puts on a little show which should keep the occupied while they wait.

Regardless, you shouldn't have a long wait at all with your FastPass.  Disney has really perfected this system and a limited number of the are available, specifically to keep lines moving quickly.  Don't stress over it Mom.  Go ride and have a blast...and then stand still on those people movers at the exit.  No need to rush back; I'm sure you deserve the brief respite!  :)
