We are planning two trips this year and buying annual passes. How does It work with the new fast pass system if my voucher/passes aren't activated until we arrive? Does this mean I cant make any fast pass selections ahead of time? worried

You are correct. To be able to use the FastPass+ program before your vacation, you must link an active park ticket to your My Disney Experience account. Don't worry! You will still be able to make FastPass+ selections when you validate your passes. I recently visited with friends who bought tickets at the gate. It was a simple process to link their tickets to their account via the My Disney Experience mobile app. They were able to make all of the selections they wanted for the day as well as for the rest of their vacation.
If for some reason a selection you want is unavailable, keep trying. Many guests change their selections throughout the day, opening up time slots for other guests to grab them.
