Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • I am going to disneyworld on Nov 7-Nov 11. We are Florida residents, what is the best pass for us, if we intend to go again within the next year. I was looking at the seasonal pass.

  • Hi Stacy,

I'm happy to give you my opinion on the Florida residents passes. My family has purchased seasonal passes for the past 15 years and find that those tickets meet our needs perfectly.

The seasonal passes cost about $160 less per person than the Florida resident annual passes, and they have most of the benefits of an annual pass, including the ability to park hop and discounts on resorts and merchandise. As a Florida resident, you also can opt to make monthly payments without incurring additional cost.

There are two major differences between the seasonal and annual passes: parking and blockout dates.

With the seasonal pass, if you are not staying overnight at a Walt Disney World resort, you will pay the daily parking fee, now $15. We pay to park a few times a year, but find it is still more cost effective than upgrading to the annual passes.

The biggest difference is the blockout dates. With seasonal passes, you will be blocked from admission during the peak attendance weeks, usually the week before and the week after Christmas, the week before and the week after Easter and from mid-June to mid-August.

Again, this has never been an issue for us. We prefer not to visit when the parks are most crowded.

We usually spend between 20 and 30 days a year inside the parks with our seasonal passes, counting the times we spend the weekend and the times we drive the 180 miles round-trip just for the day. That works out to about $10 to $15 per day per person for admission. We think that's an excellent value.

As I said, this is what has worked well for us. Other friends swear by the annual passes because they want the free parking and the ability to enter the parks 365 days a year. I hope this helps you evaluate what passes will work best for your situation.

Wishing you a year filled with Disney magic, whichever pass you choose. Enjoy!

    Wilma
