Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • Any suggestions for handling waiting in lines with 2 1/2 year old? That's the only part of my upcoming June trip that makes me a bit nervous :) Great panel, love the practical advice.

  • Tracy,

We have been there and done that so I definitely understand your concern.  First off, make use of the Fastpass system whenever possible.  If you're staying on-property take advantage of Extra Magic Hours (EMH) as well, when crowds levels will be lighter.

I always swing by the Dollar Store before we go to Disney.  I pick up small containers of bubble stuff, handheld games, small trinkets and toys, glow sticks, etc.  I keep them hidden until we need a distraction and then pull them out one at a time.  The newness is a big part of the magic!

And don't forget snacks!  Depending on the verbal ability of your child you may be able to play some Disney games, too.  My oldest could talk enough to play at that age, but my middle daughter could not so I know it goes either way.  We play the character game, thinking of a Disney character for every letter of the alphabet.  We also take along handheld battery powered fans which have been great, both for cooling off and for entertainment value.  Beware of the squirt bottle fans though ~ if your child is anything like mine the people standing near you in line will be getting squirted!

Another thing that works with my girls is to alternate the types of rides we go on.  If you wait in a long line for the Snow White ride, then consider going on something like It's A Small World next, where the line is generally shorter and faster moving.  It's also a nice long, relaxing ride where your child can rest up for the next wait.  Standing in lines can be monotonous for anyone and especially a toddler so this really seems to help our girls and keep the pace moving a bit.

I hope this helps you.  Have a great trip!
