Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- Hello Miss Cruise aficionado! Quick question for you. Has your family ever remained on the ship while it's at port? Besides the fact that there are fewer people on board, are they any other benefits of doing so?
- - Asked by Darcie from Arizona on 6/9/2009
- Hi Darcie. I would say the biggest benefit to staying on board is to save money! During our first Disney cruise, we actually stayed on board the ship at Nassau. Our son was quite young, we wanted to save money and it was a quiet time to enjoy the ship. In fact, we find the best time to take our son to the Mickey Pool is right after breakfast on days in port. We also found that checking our son into the Kids Club later in the afternoon so we could go ashore to shop was a nice respite.
While the ship is in port, the onboard stores will be closed during daytime hours. This is due to U.S. Customs regulations.
All other venues are open as scheduled. Restaurants, Vista Spa and fitness center, pools and other services will be operating as usual.
The Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab will operate normally with the exception of the day at Castaway Cay. While programs will still be offered, children will check-in at various locations on Castaway Cay such as Scuttle's Cove or Monstro Point.
Movies will be shown in the Buena Vista Theatre.
Planned activities such as ship tours, wine tastings, seminars, etc. will be more limited.
Still, if you decide to stay aboard the ship, your family will find plenty to do and there‘s nothing like relaxing on deck looking out at a scenic island. Consulting the Personal Navigator (entertainment guide) from my last cruise, there were many activities offered during our time in St. Croix. For example, some of the planned activities were a trivia contest, character greetings, Wii Bowling, family crafts, Pirate Line Dancing, Origami and a fitness class.
Whether you spend your day onboard and/or ashore, your family is sure to discover a day of magic and wonder.
