Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- My first Disney cruise, on the Magic, leaves January 31st. What are the water temperatures like on Castaway Cay during that time of year? Will snorkeling and other water activities be possible? What else is there to do on the island?

- Ahoy Nicole!
A cruise on the re-imagined Magic - that's magical, for sure! Your cruise will be here before you know it - get ready for some fun in the sun with Captain Mickey on the high seas!
Temperatures in Castaway Cay during January average between 64 and 77 degrees. That might sound a bit cool, but in the bright sun, can be rather balmy. My family has cruised in January before - on a Castaway Cay "double dip" itinerary. The first day we visited the island, the water was a little chilly for swimming. (for me, at least - my youngest was having a blast on the Pelican Plunge water slide!) On the day we returned for our second visit, the weather was much warmer, as was the water. Both days were perfect for sun-bathing and other activities.
In case of chilly weather, there are plenty of activities "on" the water, as opposed to "in" the water. Paddle boats, Aqua Trikes, kayaks and more are available to rent for 30 minute blocks of time. These rentals can't be pre-reserved and are on a first-come first-serve basis at the Boat Beach.
One activity that my family loves is renting bicycles for a spin around the island. We love to head out to the Observation Tower and climb to the top for a birds-eye view of all of Castaway Cay.
Regardless of the temps, Castaway Cay is an island paradise that you're sure to fall in love with. Hoping for warm weather for your vacation!
