Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- I have heard that runners can do a 5K at Castaway Cay. Do you have any details? I was told by another runner that they are the first passengers to leave the ship. It sounds like the perfect way to arrive! Thanks for your insight!

Ahoy, Erin! Your source was absolutely correct! Imagine being able to enjoy an "empty" course while running a 5K on a gorgeous tropical paradise! That is precisely what you will be doing when the Disney Cruise ship stops at Disney's private island, Castaway Cay. The 5K will be advertised on your daily Personal Navigator, as well as, the Castaway Cay-Vents schedule. The latter can be found on the reserve side of the Castaway Cay island map insert. You will be meeting with other adult runners at the ship's gangway at 8:30 a.m. There is no registration required for this 5K, as it is a very informal run that is routinely offered on this stop. You will be the first group of Guests to debark the ship. A Disney Cruise Line Cast Member will go over the running route on the island's map, explain the hazards of running on the island, and show you which paths to avoid. S/he will also show you where you can find the cargo-crate water coolers along the pathway. The running course starts near the Castaway Cay map sign. It will take you past Marge's Barges & Sea Charters Dock, the tram stop, Cookie's BBQ, and Bahamian Retail. Once you reach the Bike & Float Rentals area, you will bear a right to make your way to the island's landing airstrip. You will go down the Castaway Cay runway until you reach the bike trails. Once you get to the end of the bike trail, you will be rewarded with some amazing views of a peacefully "deserted" beach. Sounds like running is your passion, so I will also recommend the running tracks on the four Disney ships. On the Disney Magic, and Disney Wonder, you can experience an invigorating 1/3-mile per lap workout around Deck 4. If you are sailing on the Disney Dream, or the Disney Fantasy, you will have the opportunity of running the 2/5-mile per lap track encircling Deck 4. Just eight laps there are equal to a 5K! So be sure to pack your running shoes and enjoy some fitness afloat the Disney ships! Have a most magical Disney Cruise! Bon Voyage!
