Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • Greetings to all, we are boarding our first ever cruise in 6 days on the Disney Dream and I have no idea if I am prepared-please help! At this point, how many outfits should I pack for the family per member? (I think I am overpacking). Thanks-Anxious K

  • Hello, Kysha from my beautiful home state of Alabama!

You have come to the right place...let me put your mind at ease (and in an all-familiar Southern accent!). Congratulations on your first-ever cruise aboard the Disney Dream.  My family and I had a chance to sail on this ship this year, and you are in for a treat! I've included a video of our voyage in April to give you an idea of what to expect.

For my family of six, I usually plan for one outfit per day (shorts, t-shirts) per family member. Then, each person will need a dressier outfit for dinner one evening (long pants/collared shirts for men/boys; dresses/nice pants outfits for ladies/girls). Two nights for dinner will be "cruise casual" which means no shorts, tank tops or swimwear in the main restaurants for dinner, but the guys can wear the same pants as they wore for the dressy night.  Just pair the slacks with a golf shirt or nice t-shirt. The girls can be more casual, and everyone will want to bring along some pirate accessories for pirate night.  Don't forget your swimsuits, coverups and sunscreen!

Although we have pretty mild winters in Alabama, you can count on it being about 10 degrees warmer in Central Florida and the mercury rising as you get closer to the Bahamas.  Don't forget a rain jacket which can double as a wind breaker for nights at sea, and you should be all set.  Another idea is to pack in different-sized suitcases so that you can completely unpack when you're in your stateroom. The bags can nest inside each other and store under the bed. Put shoes in the ottoman so that you can find them, and hang up as much as you can in the closet. Bring a clear, plastic shoe organizer to keep toiletries stored in the bathroom since there isn't much counter space.

I hope I've helped, but I have run out of room. Write back if you have more questions. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
